Highlights of 2010!

I am currently in Sydney after going to the Mudgee region. They have forty vineyards and a boutique brewery there now! http://mudgeebrewing.com.au/ Mmmmm Beer. I'm not one of those up themselves Sydney people who goes to Mudgee and goes 'can I have a Dry White'- I laugh at these people and proceed to try to pick their daughter(s). I talk to the people who work there and they are often very welcoming, give great advice and get me tipsy. Mudgee has been operating as a wine region since the 1850's. We then went to the Blue Mountains, where, coincidentally, everyone from Europe was. But it was great- just a little crowded. Now I'm in Sydney awaiting tonight's New Years Eve festivities. Watch out Ladies.

 Movies I liked this year

Movies- A Night in Paris 2,  A Prophet, Inception, The Other Guys, The Easy A. Those movies should get you thinking, laid or both.

Other good movies according to various sources- Winter's Bone, The King's speech, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Robin Hood, Micmacs, City Island, Tomorrow When the War Began, The Social Network.

2010

One thing I loathe about Australian media is its tenacious appetite for negative events. In these times aphorism's like 'Happiness writes in white ink on a white page'' by Henry de Montherlant, become more pertinent. I believe people pass along bad news at a rate of 7-2, compared to good news. Now for the Good News.

What we know from 2010

According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the number of undernourished people in the world declined by 100 million this year, from 1,023,000,000 in 2009 to 925 million at the moment. From 1970, the amount of people who are categorised as being undernnourished has been lifted from one in four to one in seven. This is a massive achievement.

People should read The UN's 2010 Human Development Report. As reported in the SMH. In developing countries:

Life expectancy- 1970- 59, 2010 - 70
School enrolment- 1970 55 percent, 2010 - 70
GDP per capita- $US 5,000 to more than $10,000
Since 1970 only three countries, Republic of Congo, Zambia and Zimbabwe have gone backwards.

In Australia

Crime

"The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research published research showing downward trends in violent crime, property crime, The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre found that the use of heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis and cocaine are all lower than they were in 2000 and all, aside from heroin, have been declining since 2005."

Medical

Stem cells were used for the first time in the brain of a stroke victim, offering hope to many. Stem cells were also used to grow the first ever set of lungs. An electric eye was also built this year. Basically, you have a camera in your set of glasses and this transmits images to a chip in your brain which stimulates optic nerves connected to your retina. Needless to say the people working on these things are fucking smart.

University of Maryland Scientists "succeeded in teleporting data from one atom to another, a kind of holy grail in the field and the basis for faster, more compact computers". "The scientist who helped map the human genome in 2001, Craig Venter, completed a 15-year quest to synthesise a bacterial cell that replicates on its own, holding out hopes for fast production of vaccines and biofuels."

Our life expectancy has gone up a minimum of 22 years in the last century and cancer mortality has dropped slightly.

The lethal virus rinderpest has all but been eliminated. Some saying this is the biggest achievement in veterinary science, ever. Nothing as big has been eradicated since smallpox.   http://www.fao.org/ag/againfo/resources/documents/multimedia/popup/grep.html

Space/Land

The NASA Kepler telescope helped scientists find 750 new planets this year- similar to Earth. The Amazon rainforest's deforestation has decreased by more than 90 percent since 2004.

Interesting Facts

Australia is home to 11 Nobel Prize winners, the cochlear implant, Google Maps and internet Wi-Fi. Julian Assange is Australian. Our currency is higher than the US and Canada is on the rise everywhere. Australia had the the second fastest growing currency in 2010. Our Unemployment rate is in the low 5 percentage range. The Canadian Unemployment rate is 7.6 percent, US 9.3 percent.

Top Songs of 2010

This could be a never ending list. Everyone has their different tastes and preferences. I admire different genres and have tried to accommodate varying artists. I have tried to restrict the more commercial/mainstream songs. Thanks to Bernard Zuel, Dom Alessio, Clem Bastow, Barry Divola and Samantha Clode. The ones with an asterisk are Australian. Ad your thoughts and comments. If you mention Ke$ha or Kanye you will get an instant STD/STI.

I have put links in insteading of embedding the code. This way your computer/phone won't blow up.

Chevy's National Lampoons Christmas Lights vs Modern Christmas Lights

We have all seen 'National Lampoons Christmas Vacation'. We all saw Chevy initially fail to rig up the Christmas lights right....and the cat get electrocuted in a seperate but fatal incident (for the cat). See it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ian6NyXpszw
I think the show he is now in, 'community' - is smashing baby.

Here are some impressive Christmas light videos. Ranging from the theme's of guitar hero, gameboy, to old school classics mixed with rave tunes.

Guitar Hero- You can actually play the game on your garage door.

Gameboy- Prob drive the Neighbours Nuts.

Rave Time

As the Name Suggests-

Might do one more post before Christmas. Thanks to everyone pushing my total views above 1200 (it doesn't include my own views- incase you were wondering). I don't know many people who have gone from writing about Assange to writing about Christmas lights :).
Cheers Barnes.

When Sweden + Sex = Prison

When Sweden + Sex = Prison

When I imagine Sweden, I think of bountiful big bosomed blond beauties in IKEA warehouses. I don’t imagine being locked up in a prison because my condom broke or because a girl didn’t think I was as chivalrous as I should have been. Julian Assange (Australian Wikileaks guy) finds himself in a sticky, legal quagmire…and I’m just going to talk about the sex claims. Some people may know that i have worked in tax law. The Swedish sex laws are even more complex than Australian tax law. James D. Caitlin, a Melbourne barrister, recently wrote, “you need a law degree to know whether you have been raped or not in Sweden.” Luckily, I have a law degree. However, the chances of me going to the police because I was raped by bountiful big bosomed blond beauties are remote to non existent. Back to Assange.

The two women went to four different prosecutors until they finally got a prosecutor to press charges. There are four charges, including, “ofredande”, which means annoyance. The girls are basically saying that Assange used his body weight (he’s a very skinny guy) to lie on one of them (missionary position?). He is also being charged with “assaulting one of the individual’s sexual integrity” by having consensual sex, but without a condom. The third charge is using his penis to prod into one of the individual’s backs, in the morning, after they spent the night together. This is what many people would call ‘morning glory’ (Charles Waterstreet). The fourth charge is, having sex with a sleeping woman (he was bad and she fell asleep?). I am in no-way condoning sexual assault, or the like. I am, suggesting that, Swedish sex laws are quite liberal. A judge in Australia would probably laugh at you as it seems evident that there was consent.

Now I appreciate that Sweden may be a fairly feminist country. But there is feminism and then there is feminism. Naomi Wolf for the Huffington Post wrote a parody piece on the subject and according to the prosecution- me, my father and every male could be in danger.

“I know you (interpol) will now prioritize the global manhunt for 1.3 million guys I have heard similar complaints about personally in the US alone -- there is an entire fraternity at the University of Texas you need to arrest immediately. I also have firsthand information that John Smith in Providence, Rhode Island, went to a stag party -- with strippers! -- that his girlfriend wanted him to skip, and that Mark Levinson in Corvallis, Oregon, did not notice that his girlfriend got a really cute new haircut -- even though it was THREE INCHES SHORTER”

The women boasted after sleeping with Assange on the internet, via mobiles and in the national Swedish paper. Incidentally, one of them has written a book on how to get revenge on cheating boyfriends. As Charles Waterstreet writes:

‘when people come together in Sweden to make love, all the myriad acts that make it occur require a series of legal permissions for every movement. You need a border pass at every gate, let alone entry point. You need your permission passport stamped before and after any visit to any part of the body. You may need a notary public to witness…solo sex, a form of self- assembly requires your own written consent in advance.”

Lucky for these guys they're in America.

Cheers Barnes.

What I know about Women

For those in the know, there has been a column in the Life section of the SMH entitled 'What I know about Women,' written by Men. I thought I would ad to the collection.

My Mum, Cathie, has always been a fighter. She is extremely selfless (like my Father) and doesn't have a bad bone in her body. This phrase is used a lot- but I think those that know her would agree. My mother is the kind of person, who instead of giving a homeless person money, will go into a shop and buy them a pie. Now I know there is a fine line with being generous and being walked over. But if everyone was as generous and caring as her, there would be no need to worry about the scruples of others.

She was brought up in the small, rural town of Mudgee. More famous these days for its wines and tourism. Her family didn't have much, but they did have a belief in looking out for one another. She doesn't condemn or criticize anyone, until she knows all the facts. She is one of the smartest people I know. She can devour books in a day and always has an educated opinion on contemporary topics. It is safe to say that both my Mum and Sister are more intelligent than I will ever be. But I will be better at Rugby than they will ever be :)....hopefully.

I would say that about half my friends are girls or maybe more. Females are better at weighing up different issues and giving genuine answers. They are better at gathering information and suggesting different alternatives of action. They are more careful when making important decisions and thus less reckless and ego driven. Women are also physically beautiful and look after themselves.

I have learned a lot from Women. I used to be a bit ego driven. At Uni I would walk up to girls in Clubs/Bars and say things like 'So what have you got going for you apart form your looks' etc. But through girls, I have dropped any ego that I may have had and become more passionate and understanding. Girls give me someone to talk to about the world and my interests. They talk less about mind numbing things than males do. Not that I don't like to talk about the Rugby, Cricket or NHL at times.

If guys had to give birth, we would probably cry for about a month afterwards. So hats off to my Mum, Sister and all the girls I have been lucky enough to meet and are friends of mine.

Aussie Hip Hop

I have been travelling back and forth from home to Brisbane- if there were frequent road points I would be set. I am missing stereosonic right now which is annoying, oh well. I also changed my relationship status on facebook to see if those ads that appear would change...it appears not. I still get hit with these 'young Russian female seeking young Aussie' ads, or the like. I know Aussie hip hop is starting to find its feet overseas. I have some Canadian friends who really like it, so I thought i would do some digging to find you some new stuff. This site is also good http://allaussiehiphop.wordpress.com/

Australia- Not that Far.

I got asked quite a bit- how far is Oz from Canada? I also got asked what certain Aussie slang meant.. It takes 14 hours and 45 minutes to get from Vancouver to Brisbane direct. It would take you 11 hrs and 51 minutes to get from Vancouver to Calgary by road, without stopping. It would take you 22 hours and 53 minutes to get from Kelowna to Winnipeg without stopping by road. To get things in perspective. It would take you longer to get to Italy from Western North America than to Australia.

As far as an Australian is concerned, anything can, and should, be abbreviated. Abbreviation is achieved by taking the main root of the word and adding “ie” or “y” and “o”. Australians abbreviate nouns, names, places, anything at all!

Common abbreviations are:
Aussie = Australian
Arvo = Afternoon
Bickies = Biscuits, cookies
Blowie = Blowfly
Brekky = Breakfast
Brolly = Umbrella
Chrissie = Christmas
Cocky = Cockatoo, native bird of Australia, can also mean a farmer
Cozzie = Swimming costume / swimsuit / bathing suit
Footy = Football of any variation (Aussie rules, Rugby League, Soccer)
Greenie = Mildly derogatory term for a conservationist
Journo = Journalist
Middy = A medium sized glass of beer
Mozzies = Mosquitoes
Pokies = Poker or slot machines. Also, one-armed bandits
Pollie = Politician
Pommy = Someone from Britain, the acronym P.O.M.E. was stamped on early convicts clothing, which stood for Prisoner Of Mother England
Pressie = Present
Tinnie = Can of cold beer
Troppo = Crazy behaviour
Vegies = Vegetables

Other common words and expressions are:

Are you right? = An inquiry as to whether the questioner can do anything for you e.g. “Are you being served?” from a shop assistant
Back of Beyond = “Way out in the bush”, “in the Never Never”, “close to the “Black Stump” are euphemisms for the middle of nowhere
Beaut = Very good, excellent
Bludge/Bludger = To impose on, to not pay one’s way e.g. “dolebludger” is someone on unemployment benefits
Fair suck of the sav! : exclamation of wonder, awe, disbelief
Dead dingo's donger :
(as dry as a) dry
Turps, hit the : go on a drinking binge
Piece of piss : easy task
Kangaroos loose
in the top paddock : Intellectually inadequate
Buckley's chance :
(you've got) no chance

Tim Tam Slam and Drop Bears

Tim Tam Slam

So Tim Tam Slam's aren't actually named after me. However, much like me, they're incredibly delectable and satisfactorily cool. I feel like people overseas don't really know how eat a Tim Tam Slam. So I’ve posted this link here on how to eat them. You won't be disappointed.

http://puttingweirdthingsincoffee.com/2010/08/08/the-tim-tam-slam/

You can find Tim Tams at most major Canadian grocery stores like Save on Foods. They're a little expensive compared to the 2 dollars I paid for a packet down the road. You have to try it though.

Drop Bears.

Some ignorant people who don't know much about Australia believe that drop bears aren't true. This will land you in hospital as soon as you get off the aircraft at Sydney airport. Drop Bears like to hide in gum trees and will drop from telegraph poles at times. They are immune to getting electrocuted from power lines. This makes them the 'Great White' of the sky.

Things some Canadian's get wrong about Aus and some advice.

If you come to Aus you will no-doubt be killed in some way, shape or form by something poisonous that
your Geography teacher didn't even tell you about. I mean there are only 22 million Australian's. I wonder how many there would be if the only animals were chipmunks and squirrels?

In all seriousness, I have been home for three weeks and I haven't seen an animal that could even potentially kill me. I have, however, seen a Wallaby, a couple of Kangaroos and a brush turkey without even trying. If you come to Australia, you probably won't see something that can kill you. I have surfed hundreds of days and haven't seen a shark. I grew up on a property and saw some snakes, but unless you step on one (because you're blind) or harass one (because you're an idiot) you won't get attacked.

Australians are uncouth roughnecks like Crocodile Dundee or beach bimbos: There are these people but they're in the minority. Plus I like beach bimbos.

Foster's is everywhere: You won't see foster's in Australia. If you do happen to see it and someone drinking it, punch them. Punch them hard. There are way better beers!

We love our sports as much as Canadians like hockey: This is true. If you go to Victoria support any team but Collingwood in the AFL. If you go to New South Wales support any team but the Brisbane Broncos. If you go to Queensland support the Brisbane Broncos. If you go to a cricket game support Australia.

Everyone calls each other mate: I do call people mate sometimes. But I would never call a girl mate (see roughneck).

It doesn't snow in Australia: It does and I can prove it http://www.ski.com.au/

Before coming to Australia realise that the capital cities are expensive- especially Sydney. Don't go to a capital city and then go back to Canada and go "wow Australia was really expensive". Sydney is Toronto but looks like Vancouver (expensive, nice harbour and okay beaches). Melbourne is Montreal (culture   capital) and Brisbane is Ottawa (smaller, lots of pubs). These are the best analogies I can do.  If you want value for money get out of the cities. Fly into Sydney spend a couple of days there. See the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi, Manly, Blue Mountains then go down to Kiama or drive up the Pacific Highway checking out Newcastle (bar beach and mereweather). Keep driving North to Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. Then keep driving up to Ballina and Byron Bay. All of these places are worth checking out in NSW. Before you get to the Gold Coast and Brisbane. If you would rather see some 'real' Australia drive up the New England Highway rather than the Pacific Highway.

If you fly into Brisbane check it out for a couple of days then had down to the Gold Coast, then Byron, Lennox, Ballina and for an even more casual spot Yamba or Iluka. You  can also drive up North to the Sunshine Coast and Cairns.

In Australia. Do check out the smaller beach villages and towns. Do check out the rainforest's in Northern NSW and Southern Queensland. Don't fall into the tourist trap of spending all your time at Bondi, Manly, Byron Bay or Noosa (check them out but don't stay longer than necessary if you're here for a short time).

You can fly between the different Australian cities. It will cost you about the same as it would in Canada, if you don't get some sort of deal. You can get a train to each capital city. It is cheap in comparison but it takes a long time and the trains aren't as good as Canada. I don't know how much coaches cost. There would be coaches catered towards backpackers that would take you all over Australia no doubt. It may be the easiest option if you don't have access to a car.

Cost

Cars - In Australia, cars cost more than in Canada, however, our insurance is twice as cheap. I would pay about a 1000 bucks to get my rego and insurance every year.

Food - I think food costs more in the cities (more so Sydney) in Australia than in Canada, but vice versa once you get   out of the cities. Same with alcohol. Beer is def cheaper in my home town than in BC.

Clothes: Are more expensive in Australia. However, the price you see on the price tag is the actual price of the item. Taxes are included in the price of an item in Aus.

Wages- Minimum wage in NSW is $14.40 an hour. I believe its similar across Aus. Why do you think there are some many Aussies overseas? We can save in this country.

Weather- http://www.weatherzone.com.au/  is a good website. Check out when the best time to come is.

Tipping: The only time I ever tip in Aus is when I go to a nice restaurant on say a date. I never tip when I go to the bar or when I use a taxi. People's wages are higher to accommodate for tips. Some would say that this means customer service is worse. Personally, I felt harassed at times in Canada because of the overzealous sales people. Each to their own. The price you see on a menu is the actual price. If something is $11.99 it's $11.99. Its not say $13.20 after tax and not $15.00 after tips.

Phone: We have really good plans in Australia. You will never be charged for receiving a text or call on an Australian mobile, unlike Canada.

I haven't talked about Victoria as I don't know it very well. I have heard that Melbourne is the best city in Australia though.

Are Aussies fatter than Canadians?

Yes.

So when I arrived back home some things hit me. The weather was warm, everything was insanely green, the amount of wildlife and a lady. A lady who was so large she bumped into me... it felt like an assault, such was her frame.

People are bigger and dress more daggy in Australia (prob because it's warm and people don't care). Now most people know that Australians and Americans are supposed to be the fattest people in the world (places with bigger populations not including some islands). Why?

Pros
1) Australia has a lot less fast food places than there are in Canada or the US.
2) Australian's play a lot of sport and are good at most sports--we hate to lose.
3) We have great weather- so we should be able to excercise outdoors.
4) We drink a lot of Coffee (a diuretic)

Cons

1) Junk food is cheap here. Especially if you go out of a major city.
2) Australian's are ignorant towards being healthy and how much they weigh.
3) Skinny people are often ostracised.
4) We drive everywhere
5) Our bike systems aren't good
6) While it is true that out weather is great, I think that in a cooler climate you can excercise for longer because you don't get overheated and swet as much.
6) We drink a lot of beer (I can get schooner of beer downtown for $4.10 (425ml) - its 40 mls less than a Pint in Canada. So you would be paying around $4.60 for a Pint where I live in Aus for a Canadian equivalent Pint. Although you can still get Pints in Aus but they're 570ml. Confused??

Why it's important. People always go on about why they have to pay so much tax. Part of your tax goes to the health system (hospitals) etc. The cost of obesity in Australia was around $4 billion in 2005 and has gone up. This amount includes (lost producivity, welfare and health system costs). I also don't want to look at fat people- maybe I'm a jerk.

I have done a BMI index on myself to see how 'healthy' I was, only to find out I was nearly overweight. BMI while sometimes working as a way to determine if someone is overweight is increasingly inaccurate. Every player in the NRL would  be overweight or close to it. In fact, the more I go to the gym the more chance I have of being overweight- through BMI. It can't differentiate between muscle and fat....last time I looked, a six pack didn't indicate you were overweight.

According to Forbes http://www.forbes.com/2007/02/07/worlds-fattest-countries-forbeslife-cx_ls_0208worldfat_2.html

Australian's on average are fatter than Canadians, but it's determined via BMI. From walking around,
I think Australian's are bigger on average. Canadians may lose weight trying to keep warm from the cold but I did notice there were a lot of gyms in Canada to compensate the colder climate.

*Some words are spelt differently in Aus than Canada.
* This person is fat accoridng to BMI and should not be trusted.

Roller Derby

I should be 1) Looking for a job 2) Growing my mustache, 3) Getting ready to go to the pub for Melbourne cup shenanigans. I'm going to write a blog on Roller Derby instead.

So i was fortunate to go and see roller derby in Kelowna, Canada. The chicks, I mean girls had more balls than me and it got me thinking what my name would be if, i, could actually skate and joined a roller derby league.

Now i don't have black hair, tattoos and a passion for horror films which is prob 80 percent of normal roller derby players. However, if I did compete under a pseudonym, I believe it would be Vagina8r.

On quick inspection I came to the realisation that this name has already been taken, as has beaver control. Of course, I am only looking at names that my Grandma would cringe at.

I am thinking of Rooter McGavin at this point in time.

Rules- Of Roller Derby.

"There are rules and points and strategies, but at most Roller Derby matches the only people who seem to be aware of them are the people playing. If you know someone who plays on a Roller Derby team, you should treat them like a white person who does improv. Encourage them in their efforts, but make it clear that you will not pay money to watch their hobby." --- from http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/  and no it's not a racist website. It's a satirical look at what white people adore- like Mos Def and Bumper Stickers and why.

In my opinion the sport is well worth paying for to watch. I won't actually play it because I would get run over and die but that's beside the point. In Aus the sport is growing exponentially. Google it and you will see what I mean.

Whistler

I have been in Whistler for a few days and its sweet. Its going to be weird going home when all these Aussies are arriving for the ski season. Went out on Wednesday nigtht and got pretty hammered with Lindsay. Bree, Emma, Ange, Will, Trent and Simon. Still a sausage fest here as you would expect but a good atmosphere non-the-less. The camera was dead so no photos - argh.

Harrison has taken me out to a lake were you swing out on this massive rope. We swung out and held firmly so we didn't fall into the cold water. Went to my first real diner and got a good feed.

It was supposed to snow last night so will interesting to see if it did. Can't see the moutain atm as its covered by cloud.

I sold just about all my snow gear really cheaply. The guy should be pretty happy about it.

Some other sites I dig  for music and reviews are.

Leaving Canadia!

I have booked to fly out on the 24th of October- still waiting on the credit card stuff to go through though.

Canada has been fun. It is a very liveable place and I have made many friends. I learned how to snowboard and canoe properly. I discovered camping can actually be fun and that you can get used to people driving on the other side of the road. I went to 6 Canadian cities and went to both sides of the Country.

I will be leaving after a year but I know many Australians who have been here longer. If I had a job which somehow resembled what I studied I might have stayed longer.

If you said I would come to like gangsta rap and mashup music before I left I would have questioned you. Likewise 'ice' hockey. I have come to like music they play over here and their sports. Although they are def backward with alternate music and the kinda music they play on JJJ.

The girls here are cute...and maybe more open than say Sydney girls. I think I wouldn't be the only Aussie to say that I would be more confident trying to wooo a Canadian girl than an Aussie from a large city. The accent helps. Canadian girls are more likely to be proactive and sporty than Aussie girls. Which is weird because its cold here for long stretches of the year.

I would like to come back at one stage. Hopefully I can get a job which enables me to travel between the two.

Been overseas for a year- time to blog.

So i'm sitting at my friends place on Thanksgiving and it's raining. I didn't think this would be how I would lose my Thanksgiving virginity. I had pictured turkey's stuffed with pumpkins, stuffed with potatoes, stuffed with cranberry sauce. I even bought the ingredients to make this concoction- yes ladies I can cook. I don't know how much Canadian's know about Australian history but I was unaware that the maple leaf country had a Thanksgiving (never tell them they're American's incognito).

Despite this I'm still happy because It's a long weekend here (don't tell Canadians Australian's get 4 weeks off a year plus public holidays). Working in landscaping I need all the time off I can get. Although making money is all important here albeit on 13 dollars an hour (I'm in BC). My Australian friends will scoff at that number. It's a good experience but I need to get back into 'White Collar' work....where I actually use my brain. It would take me 12 months to get qualified as a lawyer in Canada....which I did consider at one point.

I went to the pub on friday night and got swarmed by late 20, early 30 year olds who signed me up to play ultimate frisbee. I don't know if I look like a young, fit and fertile male but maybe they thought I did. They must be keen, they have already messaged me this morning. I don't really feel like getting wet though...playing ultimate frisbee.

Tonight appears to be promising. I'm going to watch my friend Steph play in a roller derby clash. Her stage name is 'one night slammer' so she will prob be pretty frisky especially because they're selling vodka there. Her sister has just had a baby and I know she will be an awesome Auntie to Sophia.

I am unclear what my plans are atm. I was going to quit landscaping at the end of this week. But I want to get home and have some money and I know I won't get work straight away when I'm back home. But its getting colder here it its kind of dead here unless you're on a mountain. My friend might be able to get me a job in Whistler and I have been looking at Australian business's in Vancouver.

Big White Antics

It has been snowing in Australia lately. It is the equivalent of it snowing in June, in Canada. WEIRD!

Tim, Barnes, Barnard, DJ- Lawyer, poser. Likes to drink 26er’s in 9.20 seconds with hot chicks attached to him. Had never seen substantial snow until he came to Canada. Has numerous jobs so he can get into numerous parties. Likes to steal stuff from housekeeping. Disappears from time to time.

Mark, Huck- ADD, ladies man. Like Tim learned to Snowboard and is killing it. Memorable quotes- woooh man, I ate shit, I chirped the shit out of that guy, girl, tree, mangled, money’s in the bank. Don’t take his jacket because he will ‘fight you,’ if he doesn’t know you.

Phil- Unarguably French; can’t say his last name if you’re Australian. Will chirp you if you pronounce something different from him. Arguably best snowboarder on the strip and punished his lung one day. Likes sleep and morphine. Will hump you at the bar (boy/girl) when his GF is back in Ontario.

Jason- My roommate so that’s a good start. Another good rider who works hard for the mountain. He entertains people with his MCing at events even if it’s sometimes as corny as fuck. Likes to write poems, listen to SClub7 and drink wine. His girlfriend is as nice as pie.

Cathryn, Helen, Hez- Likes to party more than any other 24 year old on the mountain. She likes to tell people she loves them a lot when drunk, voice will break glass when drunk. Has learned to snowboard very quickly after we all gave up on her. Likes to gossip about everything.

Cat- Not the fastest walker and has had more injuries than Martin Havlat. Cat has nonetheless had fun on the party scene this season and knows and thrives on everyone’s Goss.

Matt, Dozzie- Old man of the house. Dozzie has had more epic/best days on the mountain than all of us combined. We think he likes to visit the GF when things get a little out of control in our house, but we know he likes us, especially when he’s mangled.

Lindsay- It's hard to find a good time to talk to her- not when she’s just gotten up, not when she’s just done a bong hit, not when she’s mangled on the dance floor. Lindsay is a smart/fun lass/sheila who puts up with us boys when we want to watch porn etc.

Harrison, Harry, - Best Jewish skier on the mountain, make that the best. He’s won rail jams and has been willing to teach his young disciples his tricks with the ski’s and the bong. Instead of Where’s Wally- It has been a case of Where’s Harrison- at the bar.

Steph- She won the low standards award for Guest Services but let’s continue. This girl gets mangled (there is no middle ground- some would call her a Cadbury except she can drink, so she’s a alcoholocaust*). Rumours say she has travelled to and spewed up in every major city on this side of the country.

Carla- Likes to kiss and then tell everyone how good/bad kisser they were. She is trying to become black by getting tanned and going to black nightclubs in Florida. Will clean your house for you, if she’s still partying at dawn and everyone else has gone to bed.
